Summary: Waverly, Kate and Amy are the very best of friends and on paper, all of them look like their lives are perfect. Waverly owns a bakery, who no one, not even her long-time boyfriend Larry, knows she is having financial trouble. Gorgeous, independent Kate is married to a man who is running for governor of Virginia and Amy appears to have a wonderful life with a loving husband and beautiful little girl. As each of their lives begins to unravel, their friendship is put to the test.
My Thoughts: I received this book for review and was delighted by the first page, where Allie Larkin, the author of one of my favorite books, Stay, was one of the authors giving a blurb in support of How Lucky You Are. Stay was the first selection for our book club and since Larkin’s local, she agreed to come to our book club meeting to discuss it with us. She is an absolute doll besides being an awesome author, so if she thought this was a good book, I thought it surely must be. This was a great story about three friends who think they know everything about each other until each of their lives takes a turn and they are forced to re-examine themselves and their relationships. The characters are totally likeable, though I was frustrated with each of them at times about how they were dealing with their problems and just wanted to scream at them, “Just tell somebody the truth and they can help you!” It was a really great read and I actually stayed up WAY past my bedtime so I could finish it. I would highly recommend this to anyone who enjoys women’s fiction.
My Rating: 5/5
