Hey everyone! It’s been a couple of weeks since I last participated, but now that Christmas is over and I have just started a five day weekend (hell to the yeah), I’m back!
Let’s Talk is a new discussion based meme hosted by Smash Attack Reads and A Book Obsession. Here’s today’s topic:
“What are your New Year Resolutions? Or, what goals have you set for yourself in 2013?”
I’m not big into New Year’s Resolutions, but I do have a lot of goals. I’ll break them down by personal and reading.
Personal Goals
Hit my goal weight: Since the end of January this year, I’ve lost around 91 pounds. My total weight loss goal is 150 pounds. I plan on reaching that in 2013, particularly BEFORE MY WEDDING (in October).
Be a 4.0 MASTER: I’m gettin’ me my Master’s degree in May. I have three more classes, and as of now I have a 4.0 GPA so I would like to maintain that.
Buy a house: Jerry and I are already saving up for a house, and participating in the First Time Home Buyer’s Club which will give us a grant to put a down payment on a home after we save up a certain amount. We’ll definitely have money for a down payment, and are just hoping for better jobs so that we can pay our mortgage. If all goes as planned, we’ll be buying a home towards the end of the year!
Run my first half-marathon: Some of you know that I started running this year and fell in love with it. I’m planning on running my first half-marathon (13.1 miles, baby!) in either April or September.
Reading Goals
Read 100 books: This has been my goal every year since I started blogging, and I still haven’t reached it! I usually land somewhere in the 70s. That doesn’t stop me from setting this goal every year though, and one of these years, I will reach it!
Read Les Miserables: I plan to read all 1,400+ pages of this unabridged bad boy in 2013. I’m planning on reading it slowly, a little bit at a time.
Read the whole Harry Potter series: Shhh, I only read the first 4 books, and I plan on reading the whole series from start to finish this year.
Read the Twilight series: I haven’t read any of these books yet, and I feel like I proooobably should.
So those are some of my big goals for the upcoming year. What are yours?

Happy Holidays Steph
Love your personal goals, you have did great with the weight loss, well done. Oct will come so fast. I thought you were in Univ but not doing your Masters, whoooah.
Your 100 reading book goal is hilarious, I thought you had read that many once before, you like to keep that high.
I know, my goal is nuts since I never reach it haha!
I am determined I will get it one of these years.
Happy holidays to you, too!!!
You are a serious inspiration with those fitness goals! Wicked proud and totally envious. GOOD FOR YOU. You will look dashing on your wedding day!
Aww, thank you, I hope so!
Good luck with all of your goals for next year. Those are some pretty awesome goals and I hope you accomplish all of them!
Happy New Year!
Thank you so much! I hope so, too!
I love your goals! And ummm I may have to talk to you about the First Time Home Buyers Club – Treland was mentioning something like that that his mom is doing, and I wonder if it’s the same thing.
2013 is going to be an awesome year for you!
Yeah, I’ll give you all the details when we get together next. Anyone who is buying their first home should do this program… free money towards a house, hell yes! You can find some information on the M&T bank website, but basically, you get a $7,500 grant after saving at least $1,875 with monthly deposits for 10 – 24 months.
Good luck all of your goals. We did something like that when we got our first house. I am also trying to do more running. Seriously 2013 sounds like an awesome year for you
Thanks, Julie! I’m glad to hear you’re running too!
Girl, you are kicking ass at weight loss! It is crazy inspirational.
I would really love to hit 100 books read in 2013, too. I made it to 89 this year without trying too hard so it is possible! We can do it!
Thanks so much!
89 books, very impressive! I’m going to try really hard for 100 in 2013.
Thanks for your comment about how hard running was for you int he beginning. It really helps to hear that.
I’m hoping for a 5K but I’m pretty sure I’ll be able to aim higher if I keep going at my current pace.
I know you will accomplish ALL of your goals in 2013!
I know you can do a 5K and beyond! Keep up the positivity and you will get there!
Great goals and what an exciting year you have ahead of you
Good luck with the 100 books. This year was the first I kept track and I was embarrassingly amazed at how much I read. Yikes!
As for Harry Potter and Twilight? Yes, you should read them both….
Oooh, I hope to read as much next year as you did this year!
You go girl! Sounds like 2013 is going to be bu-sy!
You got some big and serious goals but I know you can make them!! The key to reading 100 books is to make sure some of them are relatively short and easy reads, to count audiobooks and not to read too many chunksters (like Les Mis!)
I actually don’t do audiobooks. I tried it one time and wasn’t crazy about it but maybe I should try again!
Well, you have inspired me!
1. Lose 15-20 pounds in 2013.
2. Start a TAB at the library.
3. Complete my MLS, also with a 4.0 average. Woot.
4. Continue my photography, and take steps to begin to market it as a business for the future.
5. I am not sure 100 books will be realistic for me this year – I’d like to shoot for 75 again, and include “a classic a month”. So many books on the “Must read BBC top 100 list” that I haven’t read. I would like to start with The Count of Monte Cristo by Dumas, my kids all enjoyed that one for High School English, Anna Karenina – daughter Susan’s favorite book, and Persuasion by Jane Austen. I also really enjoy reading debut novels, Southern fiction, and historical fiction. I am hoping that Sarah Addison Allen and Beth Hoffman both have their new books out this year!
You are doing so great with your weight loss! Gah, I am so excited for your goals this year, really! I have been reading all your posts about your running and wedding and you are doing so great! Good luck with that 4.0, we all know you can do it
And maybe 2013 WILL be the year we both finally make it to 100 books, because I never have either!
