Every year, I like doing these wrap-up posts talking about my reading stats for the year, and my favorite books. I love looking back on these posts. I did one for 2010 and 2011, if you want to check them out, but not 2009. So anyways, 2012 was NOT my best reading year. In fact, it’s probably one of my worst. I read only 36 books this year, which is lame, sad, etc. I’ve had a wonderful, crazy year though, and I wouldn’t trade any of it for anything. All I can hope is for a better reading year next year.
Every year, I set my goal for 100 books. I never reach it, but I get pretty close (usually, with this year being a big, fat exception). I am determined to make 2013 my 100 book year!
Here are my favorite reads of the year:
Lunatics by Dave Barry and Alan Zweibel – so dang funny, insane, and ridiculous. This book is over the top in the best way possible and I loved every minute of it.
All These Things I’ve Done by Gabrielle Zevin – this YA futuristic dystopian novel grabbed my attention and I raced through it to the end. Fast paced with exceptional writing, I loved this book and am going to be reading the sequel, Because It Is My Blood, very soon. This book has definitely gotten me more interested in reading from the dystopian genre and I’m looking forward to reading more in 2013.
The Fault in Our Stars by John Green – Gahhhh, this YA novel about two teens with cancer and love totally broke my little heart and made me just… FEEL everything. I can’t recommend this book enough.
Those were my favorites of the year… my list is tiny compared to what it usually is, but then again, I only read 35 books. I hope some of you will check these books out if you haven’t already.
Some of the other highlights of my year on the blog?
- Declaring my weight loss back in January and then promptly kicking weight loss’ ass. BOOYAH!
- Being attacked over my one and only negative review by “several” (read: ONE) anonymous commenters, and telling that damn fool OFF in the comments. BOOYAH AGAIN!
- Sharing my personal journey of weight loss and lifestyle change in a very long story, and feeling so much love and support.
- Participating in the Let’s Talk discussion meme, and creating my own, Weigh-ins, Runs, and Weddings on Wednesdays.
I’ve already posted this week about my 2013 goals and my personal reflection on 2012 so I hope you’ll read those if you get a chance. Other than that, I am seriously looking forward to 2013 and all it will bring so let’s get the show on the road with the new year!
Happy New Year, blogging friends!!!

You did have a really crazy year, so I think it’s okay that you didn’t get as much reading done! 2013 will definitely be a better reading year!
Thanks, and I think it will be too! For you also!
I like to go down memory lane, will check out your past year lists again. Fault in Stars was on my fav list too.
Happy New Year Steph, what a great one to look forward to for you.
I was soooo happy you loved TFiOS!
Happy New Year to you!
A very Happy New Year to you too sweetie.
I just bought the audio for The Fault in Our Stars.
Oooh, I hope you love it! I think you will!
Steph, It’s been a memorable year for you – so proud of all you have accomplished, especially since you are in school, working, etc. Looking forward to starting a TAB with you at the library. I appreciate all your support with my master’s, and can thank you for teaching me how to blog! I also loved “All These Things I’ve Done” and “The Fault in Our Stars”. I also had a goal of 100, but read 65. Not too shabby – but short of the 75 I read last year. I did read more adult fiction this year though, and enjoyed several, including “Where’d you go, Bernadette”, The Snow Child, Light Between Oceans, and Code Name Verity. As you can tell, I love historical fiction. I also enjoyed “A Grown Up Kind of Pretty” – a southern fiction.
I’m always happy to help you and I am excited about starting the TAB too!
A lot of those books you mentioned are on my TBR. I know a ton of people who LOVED Code Name Verity.
Even though you only read 36 books, you still got one that made my year end best list (and I read 100) — Yay for The Fault In Our Stars. And, you know, you had better and more exciting things to do this year!
I think that it sounds like you had an amazing year! My reading in 2012 dropped as well but maybe we both will have stellar years in 2013
I aim to hit 100 every year and have missed it for the last three years. This year, I read only 40, so I’m in your boat too. Hope we both hit 100 this year.
2012 was a great year for you! Hopefully 2013 is just as kind!
All These Things I’ve Done made it on my best reads list too!
