On January 22, 2015, at 9:47 PM, our son, Caleb, was born. He weighed 7 pounds and 13 ounces and was 20.5 inches long. He was two days late, but was perfect nonetheless. I chronicled my entire pregnancy on the blog (see below). From the moment we learned we were pregnant, to the moment Caleb was born, our lives have never been the same!
Learning the good news…
On May 13, 2014, we received the first of several positive pregnancy tests. Why several? Well, Jerry was a bit skeptical because the week prior, I took two early response pregnancy tests (5-8-14 and 5-9-14) that both came back negative. We decided to wait a few days before taking another one. I just had a feeling, and though the negatives really disappointed me, I didn’t quite believe them. So the evening of May 13th, I took a cheap Dollar Store pregnancy test. Jerry was at work, but I swore I saw the faintest double pink line. He wasn’t quite convinced, so when he got home from work at 2:00 in the morning, he had brought home a digital read out test as I requested. I remember the moment “pregnant” first popped up on the screen. We were both so excited, in the middle of the night, and Jerry even cried tears of joy. Two days later, we took another one just to be sure… Jerry was still the skeptic. Since he was at work, I texted him these pictures.
Sharing the news…
We kept the secret for a few days longer (one of the hardest things to do, by the way) before revealing the good news to our family with a special cake. Then, we could finally announce it to the world. Even though we were only a few weeks pregnant at the time, we were just too excited to keep the good news to ourselves.
In June, when I was seven weeks pregnant, we had one of the biggest scares of our lives in the form of a threatened miscarriage. For about two weeks, I experienced bleeding and we didn’t know what was going to happen. I was in and out of the doctor’s office for those two weeks, getting emergency ultrasounds and exams. All we could do was wait and worry, and when the bleeding finally stopped and the baby was still healthy, we were so incredibly relieved. It made me realize how much you can love a child before they are even born.
He or she…?
In early September, we finally got to find out the big news we had been waiting for… was Baby C a he or a she? We had a few family members over for a very small gender reveal a few days after the two of us found out the big news… another hard secret to keep! With a small balloon release, we announced that we would be welcoming a son! We also announced his name, one we had taken a very long time to come up with… Caleb Manuel.
Weekly pregnancy bumpdates…
I wrote weekly bumpdates from my eighth week of pregnancy on, so please feel free to check out my updates below. I also had “Waiting for Caleb Week” the week before he was due.
