In January 2012, I found myself weighing 270 pounds at only 23 years old.
After many failed attempts and diets, I finally decided to change my lifestyle and lose weight once and for all. I even declared it here.
Since that day in 2012, I have become very interested in fitness and naturally lost 118 pounds. By September 2013, I had gotten down to 152 pounds (my lowest weight, so far). I also took up running, and eventually ran my first half-marathon (that’s 13.1 miles!) in July 2013. I do plan on training for more, and eventually plan on even running a full marathon… someday! I am definitely a firm believer in dreaming big. I’ve had my ups and downs in my weight loss journey, but am determined to never again be where I was when I started out.
There are no magic tricks, diet pills, or secrets. I lost my weight by exercising, running, and counting calories on MyFitnessPal (where I also met my husband who moved here from California to be with me. He lost around 200 pounds). I discovered that it isn’t about dieting; it’s about changing your whole lifestyle and being committed to it.
My weight ended up fluctuating again because in January 2015… I gave birth to my son, Caleb. Throughout the pregnancy, I gained more weight than I should have (around 70 pounds), but thankfully did NOT get back up to 270 pounds. I did, however, get back up to 232 pounds by the end of my pregnancy.
I am currently on my second weight loss journey to lose all of the pregnancy weight (and then some). I need to re-lose what I gained (and have already started!), then continue from there to reach my ultimate goal of around 130. I hadn’t reached it prior to my pregnancy, but I’m determined to get there soon enough!
I am also working on getting back into running and fitness, when time and energy allow. It won’t be easy, especially now that I’m a mom and have less time, but I am determined to do it again, and luckily I have less to lose this time around. I am losing the pregnancy weight with the same methods I used before: calorie counting, portion control, and exercise.
