Childhood reading & where it all began…
I grew up as a really shy and anxious kid and have always found books to be one of my greatest lifelong companions since childhood. I grew up on frequent trips to the library with my mother who I totally
blame thank for my love of reading. Quite honestly, my mother is one of the biggest readers I know and I thank her immensely for getting me into reading. I don’t know who or where I would be in life if I wasn’t a reader. I work as a librarian and have a home filled with books, so really, my life revolves around this passion of mine.
In addition to my mother, Beverly Cleary is also a hero in my eyes because her Ramona books were some of the earliest books I remember loving, and they remain favorites to this day. Ramona was a funny and beloved friend to me, and I fondly remember reading the books out loud with my mother and laughing. I even had a framed illustration of Ramona in my room, taken from one of the books, of Ramona in cat mask. I also really enjoyed Pippi Longstocking, Little House on the Prairie, Nancy Drew, and Babysitters Club: Little Sister while growing up, though I would read almost anything.
If you’d like to know more about my life as a reader, I’d invite you to read this post which chronicles much of my journey: Nostalgic Reads: My Journey as a Reader.
